AEW has changed a lot over the years, with one of the biggest improvements being its production quality and how the shows look and feel. In 2025, there have been more changes, but it appears that there is growing frustration backstage about the lack of production meetings.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez revealed that AEW doesn’t do production meetings, which has caused frustration among some people in the company. Bryan Alvarez mentioned that every week, he hears complaints from AEW talent wondering why the company doesn’t have these meetings.
Alvarez pointed out a recent issue involving Thunder Rosa during the February 19th edition of AEW Dynamite, where she and Megan Bayne had a very awkward run-in. Alvarez stated that it was a mess that could have been avoided if proper planning was in place. Despite these concerns, Tony Khan has refused to hold production meetings, leading to repeated problems on AEW shows.
“The bigger story here than this was just such a fucking disaster is not a week goes by, not one week goes by where I don’t hear from somebody in AEW saying, ‘Why the fuck don’t we have production meetings? We need production meetings. Things happen on every show where if we had a production meeting, they wouldn’t happen.’ But Tony [Khan] refuses to do production meetings, and here we are. This is another one. What in the fuck happened here? Nobody knows. I didn’t get a single good explanation for it. It was just everybody was on a different page, and you made the babyface look like an absolute idiot, and away we go.”
Big wrestling promotions like WWE have production meetings before TV shows and big events. These meetings help plan the show, make sure matches don’t repeat ideas, and fix any gaps in storytelling.
