Tay Melo was once a key part of AEW’s women’s division, but she has been absent from AEW for a long time. While she recently competed in Japan, fans have been wondering when she will make her return to AEW and now, her current status has been revealed.
While speaking on The Hump, Sean Ross Sapp was asked about her current status in AEW and whether she will return to the company after her appearance in Japan. He noted that after having her baby and taking maternity leave, the reality in AEW is that being out of sight often means being out of mind.
While it’s unclear if she is ready to return, she did have a match in Japan where she teamed with Mina Shirakawa. The match went well for her first bout back, but beyond her training, there hasn’t been much discussion about her AEW status.
“She had her baby and was on maternity leave. The reality of the situation in AEW is that a lot of times, when you’re out of sight, you’re also out of mind. I don’t know if she’s ready to return. I know she had a match in Japan where she teamed with Mina Shirakawa. It went pretty well—first match back, it was fine—but I haven’t heard her name brought up outside of her training and all that.”
During STARDOM’s New Year Dream event at the Tokyo Garden Theater on January 3rd, Tay Melo teamed up with Mina Shirakawa as they squared off against Athena and Thekla in a tag team match. Melo would ultimately lose the match but fans were impressed with her performance.
Tay Melo has not competed on AEW programming since the January 11th 2023 edition of Rampage, where she and Anna Jay squared off against Ruby Soho and Willow Nightingale.
While she has resumed wrestling and is working on getting back into top form, AEW has not made any official announcements about her next steps. With AEW’s deep women’s division and focus on active competitors, it’s unclear whether she will be placed into major storylines when she returns.
