WWE has quietly changed its drug policy, and Mia Yim just confirmed that marijuana is no longer on the company’s banned substance list.
During an interview on THE SPEAKEEZY podcast, Yim was asked if she uses marijuana, and she didn’t hold back in her response.
“Because it’s (marijuana) more legal, they’ve kind of accepted it,” Yim revealed. “So before, that used to be—marijuana used to be on the drug list, and they took that off a couple years ago.”
For years, WWE imposed fines on talent who tested positive for marijuana, making it one of the more controversial elements of the company’s wellness policy. While the substance was never treated as severely as performance-enhancing drugs, repeated offenses could still result in financial penalties. However, Yim’s comments suggest that WWE has fully moved past those restrictions, allowing its talent more personal freedom when it comes to usage.
Yim also explained how she incorporates cannabis into her own recovery process. “So, when I get home on Saturdays, I’ll do that, and just chill out all day, and then I get back into the gym on Sunday. Sunday through Wednesday, I work out…”
This move mirrors a larger shift happening in professional sports, where organizations have started easing restrictions on marijuana. The UFC, for example, no longer considers cannabis use a violation of its anti-doping policy, and several states have legalized it for both medicinal and recreational use.
WWE has not publicly announced the removal of marijuana from its banned substance list, but Yim’s comments provide a clear indication that the policy has changed.
