WWE has a lot of people on their payroll, even if they don’t appear on television every week. Eric Bischoff was a huge part of the company’s history, and he spearheaded WCW during the Monday Night Wars, so he pops up occasionally in archival footage. That doesn’t mean he has any sort of ongoing agreement.
One fan posted on X to Eric Bischoff to say that, “I saw you are on the new WWE game roster that was just announced, but you have mentioned you have no deal or legends deal. Curious from a business perspective, do you get a specific deal for that from WWE or the game company.” This brought an answer from the man himself.
Eric Bischoff replied to explain that he has a deal with WWE, ongoing from his last contract, where he gets paid if they use his likeness. That face isn’t free for WWE to use, but there is no legends contract or any other sort of deal between the two sides.
“I receive royalties whenever WWE uses my likeness. It was a part of my original talent agreement and is/was standard language for talent agreements. I have no contract w WWE. Legends or otherwise.”
It’s nice that Eric Bischoff has cleared this up, because you never know how far WWE’s legends contracts extend sometimes. Right now, it appears that Easy E is 100% a free agent.
We will have to see if Eric Bischoff’s arrangement with WWE changes. He has a lot to offer the pro wrestling world, but he is also very comfortable at this stage of his life to commentate via his podcast and social media while leaving the on-screen roles to others.
Eric Bischoff may come back to WWE for a cameo eventually, or even a larger role. At that time, odds are he will have a different kind of deal with WWE.
