Buddy Matthews just made a bold statement about AEW’s ring size at Grand Slam: Australia—and then deleted it within 45 minutes.

The now-vanished tweet called out AEW’s ring for being too small and even blamed it for his injury and loss. But with no explanation for the sudden deletion, fans are left wondering if AEW pressured him to take it down.

Matthews didn’t mince words when he first posted about the situation, claiming AEW’s ring was only 16×16 instead of the 18×18 size the company insisted it used. “So thoughts after #AEWGrandSlamAustralia – If it wasn’t a 16×16 SHT wrestling ring!”* he wrote. “1: Wouldn’t have destroyed my ankle on my entrance due to holes in the padding. 2: Okada wouldn’t have been able to put his foot on the rope & I’d be champion. Sht happens…”*

No statement from Matthews, no clarification from the company—just radio silence. Meanwhile, AEW continued to get trolled by fans over the controversy.

This all stems from AEW’s decision to borrow a ring rather than ship their own to Australia. QT Marshall had previously defended the move, saying that TNA and older ROH shows often used 18×18 rings. But if Matthews is telling the truth, AEW may have used an even smaller ring, which could have directly impacted match outcomes and put wrestlers at risk.

AEW still hasn’t addressed the situation, leaving fans debating whether Matthews’ tweet was a moment of frustration or an actual reveal of behind-the-scenes issues.
