AEW’s first show in Australia, AEW Grand Slam: Australia, is about to start in an hour. Fans are already lining up at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. However, some fans have had their signs taken away before the show, which is obviously something no one could have expected.

A fan took to Twitter and revealed that their signs were taken away before entering the arena for AEW Grand Slam. They revealed what their signs said after having them confiscated at the entrance, as the fan said, “Since all my signs got confiscated at the entrance, here’s what I had for #AEWGrandSlam.” The signs that were confiscated included “Remake John Woo’s Stranglehold,” “Flew Here to See RJ City,” “Where’s Silksong?” and “Rip Her Tits Off.”

Another fan asked why the signs were confiscated in the first place, saying, “Why’d they got confiscated? Arena specific rules or just discrimination?” The fan responded that it was likely due to the rules at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre but he was not given a heads-up in advance.

The Fan also added that many people in the lines were very upset over this as well, saying, “Arena rules I guess but zero heads up in advance. Tons of folks very upset in the lines.”

However, another fan clarified the reason for the signs being confiscated in the first place. The fan noted that signs were confiscated based on size and nothing more, adding that anything bigger than A4 was being taken away, “They weren’t. It was literally just based on size. Anything bigger than A4 was being taken. Although I think it’s a venue restriction, not an AEW decision.”

They also pointed out that the A4 size limit is a common rule for bringing bags to events in Australia. However, they were surprised it also applied to signs, especially since fans were allowed to bring replica title belts into the venue.

“No bigger than an A4 piece of paper” is a pretty standard rule for bringing bags to events here in Australia. I didn’t expect it to count for signs though. Especially since people are being let in with replica title belts.”

The incident has led to a lot of discussion among AEW fans. Some understand the venue’s possible reasons, while others think it was unfair without prior notice. As AEW expands internationally, fan engagement and venue rules will obviously be given more importance, but we do hope signs aren’t confiscated again in the future.

Were the sign confiscations justified, or should AEW and the venue have communicated the rules more clearly? Share your thoughts in the comments below and let us know if you’ve ever had a similar experience at a live event!
