The Undertaker spent over 30 years in professional wrestling, always staying true to his character and never breaking kayfabe. Even after retiring, he has made a few appearances on WWE television, but not as The Deadman. He has now revealed why he will not revive The Deadman gimmick in WWE.
While speaking on his Six Feet Under podcast, The Undertaker was asked if he would return as The Deadman. He admitted that everyone has a price, but he tries to avoid it. The offer would have to be extremely big and make sense for him to consider it. He has focused on being more like Mark Callaway now, as he wants to respect the legacy of The Undertaker and the years of dedication he put into protecting that character.
The Phenom explained that if he still had anything left to give in the ring, there would need to be a major storyline where something drastic happened to Mark Callaway to bring back The Undertaker.
However, he made it clear that this isn’t going to happen. He wants to let The Undertaker rest in peace and any future appearances will be as the American Badass.
“Everybody’s got a price. But I try not to. The number would have to be really, really big, and it would have to make sense somehow. So yeah, so I’ve really pushed to kind of be more Mark Callaway now, because I want to honor that character and the work that I did, and all the kayfabing that I did for that character.
If there was something left in the tank as far as me getting back in the ring? Then I would have to figure out some kind of way for something catastrophic to happen to Mark Callaway to bring that other guy out. But that’s just not going to happen. Not being corny, but I do want to let The Undertaker kind of rest in peace and kind of everything now that you see, like the other night on the Netflix deal, was the American Badass.”
The WWE Hall of Famer was last seen during Monday Night RAW’s Netflix debut on January 6, where he came back as The American Badass. Therefore, we will have to wait and see if The Undertaker will decide to bring back his Deadman character for one last appearance in the future, even if he doesn’t want to at the moment.
