The WWE roster just got a little smaller after a wave of releases on February 7, 2025, and one of the most surprising departures was The Authors of Pain alongside their legendary manager, Paul Ellering.

AOP had been back with WWE since 2024, aligning with Karrion Kross, but their return was short-lived. Reports indicated there was internal friction surrounding their comeback, with some within the company speculating that outside financial issues played a role in their release. The duo reportedly pushed hard for Ellering to be part of their return, but after the collapse of the Wyatt Sicks storyline, WWE had no creative direction for them.

Just one day after the news broke, Ellering took to social media to address the situation and offer a glimpse into what’s next.

“.@WWE Yesterday, the clouds covered the bright sun. Today, the sun shines on a clear and robust future. #AOP. The most Precious One. #MEGA,” he wrote, sharing a cryptic message about their future.

Ellering has always been a man of few words, but his statement suggests that AOP isn’t done just yet. Given their reputation as one of wrestling’s most dominant tag teams, it’s only a matter of time before another promotion takes interest in them.

AOP’s first WWE run ended in September 2020, only for the company to bring them back four years later. Their return saw them paired with Karrion Kross and a returning Ellering, but WWE ultimately had no long-term plans for the faction.

Ellering’s comments leave the door open for what’s next, but it’s clear he’s already looking forward. Whether that means AOP resurfaces in another major promotion or pursues a different path remains to be seen.
