Triple H will be getting inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year, which is something many fans feel he more than deserves after his contributions to the business. However, it appears that he wanted to delay his induction by several years.
While speaking on the Royal Rumble post-show, Triple H talked about his WWE Hall of Fame induction and mentioned how Nick Khan had brought it up many times, asking when it would happen. Triple H always said no because he didn’t want it to look like he was putting himself in. Khan told him it had to happen at some point, so Triple H wanted to wait three to five years before talking about it again.
“Nick and I talked about the Hall of Fame many times, and he would always bring up the fact that, when are we gonna put you in, and I would say, not now, because no matter how I do it, it looks like I’m putting myself in the Hall of Fame, and I’m just not gonna do that, so he said we have to do it eventually, and I was like, okay, if we have to do it eventually, let’s wait three, four, five years and then we’ll talk about it, and he said okay.”
Initially, there was an entirely different plan for the Hall of Fame ceremony. During a town hall meeting, Shawn Michaels’ music played, and Triple H thought he was coming out to promote their new show LFG. Since he hadn’t read the full schedule, he was surprised when The Undertaker also appeared. Then, when Nick Khan moved across the room, Triple H realized something was happening to him. He wasn’t sure what it meant until The Undertaker mentioned WrestleMania, and that’s when he knew he was being inducted.
“We had an entirely different plan for Hall of Fame, and we got to the end of the town hall and Shawn’s music hit, I thought, honestly, being lazy, I didn’t read the end of the town hall run sheet and there was more after the Q&A that I just didn’t see, and I was like, oh, Shawn’s gonna come out here and talk about the new show we’re doing, LFG, and put that over, so I was confused when Shawn came out, when Taker came out it doubled, then I saw Nick walk to the other side of the room, and I realized, that somehow this is gonna affect me. I wasn’t sure positively, negatively, humorously, until Taker said WrestleMania.”
Triple H may have wanted to postpone the honor, but his WWE Hall of Fame induction is a well-deserved tribute to his legendary career. From changing WWE with D-Generation X to winning multiple world titles and shaping NXT’s golden era, his influence on the industry is undeniable and he more than deserves the induction. Therefore, we’ll have to see how his induction will be received by fans and pro wrestlers alike.
