Danhausen’s absence from AEW television had confused many fans, as they believed he deserved a regular spot on TV. He had been missing from AEW programming since December 2023, except for a brief cameo with Orange Cassidy during a special Thanksgiving episode of Dynamite. He remained off TV for most of 2024 until making an appearance at ROH Final Battle and now he has addressed his extended absence from television.

While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Danhausen was asked about his prolonged absence from AEW and ROH television. He had planned to do fun Halloween III-themed segments while recovering from an injury. Even though he was cleared to return in October, he was told to wait another month. The plan was to air Halloween III-style commercials until he came back, but that never happened.

“Yeah, I did the Halloween segments. I wanted to do something fun for Halloween. I hadn’t come back from my injury yet. I think I was fine in October, but it was still like, ‘Give it another month.’ So we planned to air these Halloween III-style annoying commercials until I returned. I thought, ‘Cool,’ but it didn’t happen.”

For a long time, he was backstage but not being used. He understood that sometimes wrestlers don’t have a storyline, but he felt like they should find something for him. Eventually, he was told to stay home, which he didn’t mind. Since AEW wasn’t using him, they allowed him to wrestle on the indies and go to conventions, which he feels helped him stay active. He still felt like he was representing the company by being at events and taking pictures with stars like Sting.

“For a long time, I was just there, not doing anything. If you don’t have anything for me, that’s fine, but I felt like we needed to find something. Yes, I was backstage for some of that, but not all of 2024. At some point, I was told, ‘You need to stay home.’ I appreciated that because if they weren’t going to bring me back for anything, at least they let me do indie shows and conventions, which helped me stay sharp. In turn, that also helped them.”

When fans asked him about returning, he didn’t have an answer but encouraged them to speak up because the more people asked, the better his chances of being brought back. After finally returning at Hammerstein Ballroom to a big crowd reaction, he’s waiting to see what happens next and hopes to be on TV again, since his character works best on television.

“I always looked at it as still representing the company in a way. Even if I wasn’t on TV, I was at conventions, taking pictures with Sting. That was better than not being seen at all. When people asked, ‘Oh, when are you coming back?’ all I could say was, ‘I don’t know. Maybe you should ask.’ The more vocal people were, the better the chances of, ‘Oh, I got something for you.’

I came back at Hammerstein Ballroom, and there was a big reaction. Now, it’s about seeing where things go and what happens next. We’re still figuring things out, but I would like to be on TV because this character is meant for television.”

Danhausen’s mix of comedy, and supernatural elements definitely makes him a truly unique part of AEW and ROH. Therefore, we’ll have to wait and see whether Tony Khan will decide to use Danhausen in the future as it’s clear he still has a lot of things to contribute to the business.

Do you think Tony Khan should give Danhausen a more prominent role on AEW and ROH shows? Would you prefer to see him in a comedic feud, a faction storyline, or even a title chase? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
