Joe Hendry is certainly on top of the world after winning the TNA World Championship at Genesis. With the Royal Rumble just around the corner, fans wonder whether he will appear at the event somehow, and now Hendry has set the record straight in that regard.
While speaking to the Deloco Podcast, Joe Hendry was asked about potentially appearing at the Royal Rumble after winning the TNA World Title. He remembered telling Shawn Michaels, “Anywhere, anytime, any show,” when he first came to NXT. According to Hendry, this mindset has led to many exciting opportunities.
Hendry said being in the Royal Rumble would be a huge honor, but as a champion, his job is to do what is best for TNA. When a wrestler is starting out, they focus on their own success, but as a champion, they have a bigger responsibility.
“Anywhere, anytime, any show—that’s what I said to Shawn Michaels when I debuted in NXT. That was the first thing I said when I came back through the curtain, and look at all the exciting things it led to. That would obviously be a huge honor and a privilege. It’s something that’s synonymous with our business.
What I will say is this: when you are a wrestler coming up through the ranks, you’re thinking about yourself and the path you’re going to take. But when you are the champion, your job is to do what’s best for the company. You now have a responsibility.”
Hendry made it clear that he is fully committed to TNA Wrestling. If TNA tells him to go to an event, no matter where it is, he will be ready. He also spoke about the partnership between TNA and WWE, saying both companies can benefit from working together. Hendry is excited for the future and all the opportunities ahead. He believes anything can happen in wrestling and is ready for whatever comes next.
“I am a soldier for TNA Wrestling. This partnership is amazing because there are so many mutual benefits for both companies. It really is as simple as this—if TNA picks up the phone and says, ‘Joe, it’s time to go,’ it doesn’t matter what event it is or where in the world it is. If TNA management tells me that’s the objective, I will move forward. So, that is what I will do—I will do what TNA Wrestling asks me to do.
All I’ll say is this: I’m ready for all the amazing and exciting potential opportunities that are on the table. It really feels like anything could happen in the world of professional wrestling.”
Joe Hendry will be at WrestleCon during Royal Rumble weekend in Indianapolis. After that, he will join the Chris Jericho Cruise on February 2nd. With the Royal Rumble taking place on February 1st at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, anything could happen and fans are definitely hoping to see Hendry enter the Royal Rumble as the TNA World Champion.
