Britt Baker hasn’t been seen on AEW television since November, and rumors about her future have been running wild. Some reports claim she’s “wildly unpopular” in the women’s locker room and that Tony Khan is “over it” when it comes to booking her. Now, a new update has shed more light on the situation, and while things may not be great for Baker, they also may not be as dramatic as some headlines made them seem.
Wade Keller of PWTorch recently reported that Baker might be done with AEW, explaining that people within the company believe she is in the same boat as others who aren’t being used. Keller also mentioned that Baker is frustrated and that Khan isn’t making any effort to put her back on TV. “The belief is that AEW CEO Tony Khan is fed up enough that he’s not using her, and should that change, she will get the call,” Keller reported.
With speculation getting out of control, Wrestling Observer Radio hosts Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez stepped in to clear things up. Meltzer admitted there was some truth to the reports but felt they had been exaggerated. “My basic impression is it’s a story that there’s a kernel of truth to some of it, but it got blown way out of proportion.”
Alvarez went deeper into how the narrative spiraled. “Well, what happened is, I think that Wade Keller, on one of his shows, was talking about it. And it was one of those things where somebody wrote about what they heard him say, and then another site took that story and wrote a more dramatic headline, and then another site took that story and wrote an even more dramatic headline, and by like noon Pacific today, I was seeing these headlines, ‘Britt Baker is done with AEW, Tony Khan will no longer use her.’ And he was like, what is happening here?”
Alvarez made it clear that while Baker may have her share of detractors, the idea that she is universally disliked in AEW isn’t accurate. “Obviously, Britt Baker is polarizing. There are people that don’t like Britt. The idea that nobody in the locker room likes Britt is absolutely not true. I talked to a lot of people today, and at the end of the day, she’s not being used right now, and most people don’t know why. Ultimately, it’s Tony’s decision whether she’s gonna be used or not. And nobody I talk to, and it’s a lot of people that talk to Tony. I mean, nobody said she’s not coming back. It’s not like she’s never going to be used again. Her contract goes for quite a while. It’s just she’s not being used right now, and that’s what the story is.”
Baker’s last match was on Dynamite on November 13, 2024, where she defeated Penelope Ford. At the time, AEW appeared to be setting up a feud between Baker and Serena Deeb. After that match, Baker dismissed Deeb’s presence by saying, “Nobody cares,” and in December, Deeb wore a shirt with the same phrase on Collision. Despite that tease, nothing ever materialized, and neither woman has wrestled in AEW since then.
Baker hasn’t directly addressed the rumors, but she did say in December on Diamond Dallas Page’s YouTube channel that she had been “filming some fun stuff” during her time off.
AEW hasn’t announced any plans for her return, and Keller’s report suggests that if she does come back, it will only be because Khan decides to use her again. The situation remains unclear, but it’s obvious that Baker’s AEW future isn’t as certain as it once was.
