The drama surrounding Corey Graves and his sudden move to WWE NXT commentary just took another turn. Fans have speculated whether Graves’ fiery Twitter rant and absence from NXT could be part of a clever storyline, but according to Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

During the Fightful Select backstage report podcast, Sapp addressed the controversy after being asked about Cultaholic’s claim that sources suggested Graves was trying to “create a buzz.” Sapp responded bluntly: “Nobody I have talked to, close to him, around him, or familiar with the situation is claiming that it was a work. Maybe eventually it could turn into one.”

Graves, known for his sharp commentary and distinctive style, has been at the center of heated discussions since his cryptic January 13 social media post, where he vented his frustrations about his WWE journey. While Graves hinted that he had more to say during the January 14 NXT broadcast, his no-show that night only added fuel to the fire.

Earlier reports also suggest that Graves’ frustrations are real and that WWE was not happy with how the situation unfolded or how it was perceived in the media. Though some believe Graves could return to Raw or SmackDown by spring, there’s no clear indication of how WWE plans to resolve the situation—or if they’ll address it publicly.

With Graves staying off WWE programming for now, fans are left wondering if this is the beginning of a new chapter for him or a situation WWE hopes will quietly disappear.
