Nic Nemeth isn’t sure what to make of JBL’s recent string of surprise appearances, but he’s making one thing clear—he wants to handle business on his own when he defends the TNA World Championship against Joe Hendry at TNA Genesis on January 19.
JBL has been popping up in multiple promotions, lending his presence to companies like GCW, MLW, AAA, and TNA. But his biggest impact has arguably been in TNA, where he’s played a direct role in Nemeth’s title defenses. He helped Nemeth secure victories against both Joe Hendry at Bound For Glory and Moose at Victory Road, neutralizing interference from Brian Myers and Eddie Edwards in the process.
Nemeth addressed JBL’s involvement while speaking on Rumor & Innuendo, making it clear that while he respects the WWE Hall of Famer, he’d prefer to handle Hendry solo.
“Having him bounce around, and who knows what the plan is? Maybe the plan all comes together on Sunday. Maybe he’s building a team. Maybe he’s turning on everyone and has some other aspect and he just wants to go viral. Maybe he just wants to beat up Joe Hendry. I don’t know,” Nemeth said.
While JBL’s presence has raised eyebrows, Nemeth insists he’s ready to prove a point against Hendry without any distractions.
“I would love to see Joe Hendry and myself have a one-on-one match. One, to see what he’s got, but two, I don’t think he can hang with me, and I feel like it would be like wrestling circles around him and finding a way to make him quit.”
Whether JBL will make his presence felt at Genesis remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure—Nemeth is locked in and looking to show Hendry who the real main event player is.
