Rey Mysterio is officially throwing his name into the 2025 Royal Rumble match, and things are already heating up. Kicking off SmackDown in his hometown of San Diego, the WWE Hall of Famer stepped into the ring to announce his entry into this year’s Royal Rumble, hoping to repeat his iconic 2006 victory.

Mysterio was ready to reflect on dedicating that legendary win to Eddie Guerrero, but Kevin Owens had other plans. Storming down to the ring, Owens cut Mysterio off and made his own intentions clear—he’s coming for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Royal Rumble in a ladder match against Cody Rhodes. But his plans didn’t stop there.

Owens told Mysterio that after he wins the title, he wants to defend it against him at WrestleMania. Mysterio didn’t back down, responding that he’d be “more than glad” to take that challenge if he wins the Rumble and Owens manages to dethrone Rhodes.

Things quickly got physical when Mysterio compared Owens’ attitude to that of Dominik Mysterio, sparking an all-out brawl. Mysterio nearly nailed Owens with a 619, but Owens bailed before impact. Moments later, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis made it official—Mysterio vs. Owens would go down later in the night.

With the Royal Rumble set for February 1 at Lucas Oil Stadium, Mysterio’s entry adds another major name to an already stacked field featuring John Cena, CM Punk, and Roman Reigns.
