According to PWInsider.com, multiple sources believe Black is expected to become a free agent sometime between February and March of 2025.

While Black is technically still under contract with AEW, those close to the situation suggest he is unlikely to make any future appearances for the company. Black, who joined AEW in 2021 following his WWE release under Vince McMahon’s leadership, has been a standout performer in AEW, leading the dark and enigmatic House of Black faction. However, recent developments, including Julia Hart’s solo return and cryptic remarks targeting his stablemates, have added fuel to rumors of his imminent exit.

If these reports hold true, Black’s timeline for freedom aligns perfectly with WWE’s ongoing interest in his services. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter previously noted that people within WWE believe that he’s likely headed back to the company once his AEW contract is officially up.

“The word backstage was that he was gone. Nobody expects him back. There was also talk from WWE that he was expected there when his contract expires.”
