Triple H has been part of many iconic moments throughout his career in WWE, and one of the most memorable things he has ever done is his water-spitting routine during his entrance. Fans always wondered how he came up with that in the first place and The Game has now explained the origins behind his water spitting.
While speaking on The Roommates Show, Triple H talked about his change in character from Hunter Hearst Helmsley to The Cerebral Assassin. He noted that backstage, people began calling him “Triple H,” so he decided to stick with the nickname and dropped Hunter Hearst Helmsley. After that, he worked on changing his look to match his idea of a wrestler. He switched to wearing trunks, grew a beard, and started wetting his hair.
“Everybody backstage called me Triple H, so we just said, ‘Let’s just go with a nickname. We’ll lose Hunter Hearst Helmsley; call me Triple H.’ We went with that, and then from there, it was just like, ‘What do I want to be?’ So, I switched to trunks, I switched to what I saw myself as a wrestler. I grew a beard, wet my hair.”
The King of Kings revealed that the water-spitting began when he won his first World Title. He would hold the belt up and spit water at the crowd as a way to show confidence and attitude, especially when fans were yelling or throwing things at him. Over time, it became a key part of his entrance, along with other moves like the crotch chop, helping him build his legendary WWE image.
“The water spit thing was just an evolution of, uh, when I first won the title. I would hold the title up in the air and spit water at fans ringside. You know, they’d be throwing stuff and yelling at you. I would stand up with the title and spit water at them as an FU, right? And we were also doing the crotch chop and all the other stuff, too.”
What started as a quick show of attitude became a memorable part of his entrance. The coordinated water spit, along with his intimidating walk to the ring truly helped establish Triple H as a larger-than-life name in WWE and he wouldn’t have had it any other way.
