Adam “Hangman” Page is on an impressive roll in AEW right now. After making his return to the scene, Page quickly set his sights on then AEW World Champion, Swerve Strickland. Although Strickland eventually lost the title, his in-ring wars were far from over. The two wrestlers faced off at All Out in Chicago, delivering one of the most violent matches in AEW history. However, the intensity of their rivalry was already building long before that night.
To hype up their match, AEW aired a segment where Hangman Page burned down Swerve Strickland’s childhood home. This home, purchased by Strickland with his new AEW contract money, was a symbol of his success, but Page was determined to take that away, leaving Strickland with nothing but ashes.
Sean Ross Sapp revealed on his Fightful Select podcast that this arson segment almost went disastrously wrong. According to Sapp, Page came dangerously close to seriously injuring himself while filming the scene.
“There was a small crew, they also had firefighters there, and all that. That was also an honest to god shot of Hangman on the side of the house, the fire was very close to him I’m told. There were some who said that it was very close to him, catching ablaze.”
Despite the dangerous buildup, the match between Hangman Page and Swerve Strickland at All Out did not disappoint in terms of brutality. The bout featured weapons such as chairs, a hypodermic needle, a cinder block, and a table. In the end, it was a chair wrapped around Strickland’s head that concluded the savage contest, leaving many fans and critics questioning if AEW had gone too far.
As for Swerve Strickland, his future in AEW seems secure with a new contract, but the fallout from this brutal encounter will see him sidelined for a while. When he returns, fans will be eager to see if he can reclaim the AEW World Title. However, it’s clear that his feud with Hangman Page is far from over, and Strickland will need to settle the score before turning his focus back to the championship.
The wrestling world is still buzzing about Hangman Page and Swerve Strickland’s unforgettable All Out match. Only time will tell how they follow up in a creative sense.
