Since his return to WWE, the Legend Killer has been adamant on taking revenge for his injury from the Bloodline. Back in May 2022, the faction unleashed a brutal assault on the Viper to take him out which eventually resulted in a severe back injury.

While it was first expected to heal up soon, it turned out to be very serious injury, one that could be called career-threatening as well. Doctors advised Orton not to return to the squared circle again after the injury. Speculations of the Viper retiring peaked for a long time as well.

During recent interview with Sportskeeda, the Viper addressed his injury and revealed how close he was to calling it a day from wrestling. With numerous neurologists suggesting he should retire, Orton had the possibility in the back of his mind for the first few months and stated that it was mentally challenging.

“I had top neurologists telling me that, ‘You know what, you had a great career, you have a life after wrestling, and you wanna be comfortable. You don’t wanna be in pain the rest of your life. We’re gonna fix your back, but you’re gonna have to stop wrestling’. The first six months that I was out, I had that in the back of my head, and it was tough. It was mentally very challenging.”

While Orton faced a lot of challenges throughout his time in rehab, he managed to make it back to the ring in a great shape. Orton returned at Survivor Series 2023 and has been on the top of the roster ever since.
