Adam Copeland has been a mainstay of AEW television since debuting back at WrestleDream and he has been a babyface all this time. However, it appears he doesn’t feel he can be a heel anymore.

In a recent interview with Mo Amir of VANCOLOUR, Adam Copeland, formerly known as Edge in WWE, reflected on his past heel run during his time with the company. He shared that in the present day, he is uncertain whether he would be successful as a heel again, joking that his attempt to turn heel in the past did not go as planned.

Copeland noted that playing a character without redeeming qualities and trying to elicit a negative reaction from the audience can be easy in itself. However, he acknowledged that it’s challenging to gain the audience’s support, especially in the current climate. The reason he has been able to maintain support from fans is due to his personal story, including his battle to return to wrestling after being forced to retire.

”It’s always fun to play a character where your job is to fall flat on your face and to have no redeeming qualities and that’s easy. It’s easy to get people to not like you. Especially in today’s climate, it’s hard to get an audience on your side. I think the only reason I’ve been able to up until this point is because everyone understands the real story of Adam behind the character and the battle to get this thing back after being forced to retire. So I think now, as much as it’d be nice to try and be heel, I tried it once and it failed pretty miserably (he laughed). So, I don’t know if it would work anymore. But, it was fun while it lasted for sure.
