WWE WrestleMania 40 Saturday turned out to be total blast for the WWE Universe. With a lot of anticipation heading into the show, WWE managed to deliver one of the best matches in the history of the industry throughout the show. While some of the biggest matches were featured, the fireworks for the Grandest Stage of them All kicked off with a dream match between Becky Lynch and Rhea Ripley.

Rhea Ripley successfully defended her Women’s World Championship against the Man at the event. Not only did she pick a victory against Lynch, but also solidified her reign as the champion and now continues to be one of the most dominant women on the current roster.

However, Ripley wasn’t always the choice to pick up a win in the match. During a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio, it was revealed that WWE had the match planned for a long time now and went back and forth with the winner of the match for a long time.

Meltzer: “I think that when this program started, Becky probably was going to win. But Rhea has gotten so hot that they probably made the choice.”

Bryan Alvarez: “I actually don’t know if they plan that from the beginning. Because I don’t know, maybe they did. I just know I looked at this card. And I thought, you know, Rhea’s winning.”

Meltzer: “This is a plan almost a year ago. When it was first planned I figured Rhea gets the year and then Becky was going to win, but Rhea got so hot that I could see it changing. As the time approached my gut was that Becky should win. I mean Rhea, I’m sorry that Rhea should win because it’s just not the right time for her to lose I guess it’s the easiest way to put it but you can do either way. I mean, it doesn’t matter.”

Rhea Ripley’s successful title defense opens the door for some big feuds for her in the coming weeks. However, the action at WrestleMania doesn’t end here as WWE hosts WrestleMania 40 Sunday in a few hours from now. Ringside News will keep you updated on this story.
