Former TNA World Champion Josh Alexander has had an impressive run in the promotion. Not only did his title reign elevate his personal career, but also benefited the promotion who earned a lot of fame and attraction, thanks to Alexander’s performances. While it seemed like his days in TNA were numbered a couple of months ago with his contract set to expire, the company extended his contract for another year.

However, following his contract extension, millions of fans speculated that the star was held hostage by the company. With TNA using the option to extend his contract, fans feel that the star was forced to stay in the company when he wanted to explore other opportunities.

Addressing the situation, Josh Alexander denied the hostage situation during a recent interview on Fightful. The TNA star revealed that he was happy to continue to be a part of the growing promotion and wanted to do much better things in the next year.

“I signed the contract two years ago. I’ve seen people on Twitter and stuff like that being like, ‘Josh is being held hostage and all this stuff’, and I want to dispel that. First and foremost, at the end of the day, I want to be able to look myself in the mirror with my head held high so that I carry myself as a professional. Did I explore the option of them not extending my contract? Sure. It never hurts to ask, but I signed that contract and I’ll uphold my end of the bargain there and stay here for another year and see what happens after that. It’s always a possibility that I negotiate a long term extension before then. Anthem has already had interest in doing that. At the end of the day, I think it would have been cool to kind of see what was out there and see what I could do in the wrestling business right now between, you know, other companies and stuff like that if there’s interest because that’s not something I’ve ever been able to do. The ball was in their court. It was a team option, they picked it up, and I’m happy to stay for another year and do the things I’ve been doing for the past five years”.
