CM Punk’s arrival in AEW in 2021 was met with immense excitement, quickly establishing himself as a central figure in the promotion. His crowning achievement came at Double or Nothing 2022 when he captured the AEW World Championship. However, Punk’s reign was plagued by injuries, including a torn triceps, and a suspension stemming from the controversial Brawl Out incident at AEW All Out 2022.

Despite these setbacks, Punk resurged in June 2023 as a focal point of AEW Collision. Yet, his tenure with AEW came to an abrupt end following an altercation involving Jack Perry, leading to the termination of his contract. In a surprising turn of events, Punk made a dramatic return to WWE at WWE Survivor Series 2023, marking a new chapter in his storied career.

On Keepin’ It 100 OFFICIAL, Konnan speculated that the AEW EVPs may have been “tuned out” during Punk’s time with the promotion due to backstage tension. While he praised The Young Bucks personally and professionally, he suggested that there was friction during their association with CM Punk, which might have impacted their engagement.

“I like The Bucks. Personally, professionally, very easy to deal with them. Very creative guys. I think, because I haven’t talked to them in a while, I think that when they were there with CM Punk, there was a lot of tension, and they were kind of like, maybe tuned out while he was still there, and wasn’t really doing anything good. Because I’ve seen them on BTE, doing a lot of funny ****.”

Konnan also critiqued The Bucks’ recent portrayal as heels, questioning their commitment to the storyline since Punk’s departure. He cited their actions on Being The Elite and recent narrative decisions as examples.

“And then as heels, you know, going around with the white suits, with the blood on it… I thought that was whack. Some of the stuff they’ve done, like, ‘Oh, we’re gonna suspend Hangman Page.’ All right, big deal, he’s a heel. Why should anybody get mad at that? I don’t know, bro, they just don’t seem into whatever they’re doing. They don’t seem to be interested. And they should be, because Punk isn’t there anymore.”

Currently, The Young Bucks are aligned with Kazuchika Okada as part of The Elite, and their performances continue to entertain fans. However, their future trajectory remains uncertain.
