The March 15th edition of Friday Night SmackDown is already an incredibly hyped episode for good reason, and it appears a WWE Hall of Famer is set to make an appearance on the show as well.

As WWE aims to maintain its streak of sell-out shows, SmackDown is scheduled to visit the iconic city of Memphis, TN, known as the birthplace of Rock ‘N’ Roll, on March 15th. With The Rock already confirmed to appear on the show just weeks before his highly anticipated return to the WWE ring after eight years, speculation suggests that WWE may have another legendary surprise in store for the event.

According to PWInsider, Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler, a Memphis native and WWE Hall of Famer, is slated to make an appearance on SmackDown. Lawler’s recent announcement of his inability to attend a scheduled appearance in New York City on March 16th suggests that he has been called upon by WWE for the upcoming SmackDown show in Memphis.

‘WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler announced that he would be missing this Saturday’s Big Event convention in NYC as WWE has called for him to appear at Friday’s Smackdown taping in his hometown of Memphis.  There are no flights that would get him to NYC before the event begins, so he will be unable to make his signing appearance.”

Lawler’s last appearance on WWE television occurred on the August 28th edition of Monday Night RAW, where Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens brought him out to engage with the Memphis crowd during a commercial break. We’ll have to see if he will be featured on the show or just appear backstage.
