The life of a professional wrestler is unpredictable, as lives can be lost at any given moment in the ring. This week, the world of professional wrestling mourns the loss of yet another promising talent, the young luchador known as Rey Destroller.

Luchablog has reported the unfortunate passing of Destroller (pronounced Destroyer), who collapsed in the ring during a March 2 RIOT Lucha Libre event in Monterrey, Mexico. Destroller, alongside his brother Black Spider Jr., was participating in a tag team match at the time.

According to Spider Jr., Destroller executed a headscissors move on one of their opponents earlier in the match but collapsed upon attempting to rise afterward. He was subsequently hospitalized with severe brain damage and remained in critical condition until his passing on March 12.

Family members of Destroller allege that RIOT officials failed to adequately care for him following the incident and also expressed grievances about unpaid wages for the brothers. RIOT, however, asserts that their priority was ensuring Destroller’s well-being, promptly transferring him to the hospital on a stretcher. They claim to have remained in communication with Destroller’s mother and intend to cover his medical expenses.

Luchablog received footage of the headscissors incident from RIOT, which suggests that Destroller did not land directly on his head but rather harshly on his shoulder and back. RIOT maintains that there was no specific moment during the match where Destroller appeared to sustain a severe head injury.

Upon learning of Destroller’s passing, LA Park issued a statement expressing his heartfelt condolences:

“I have just been informed of the unfortunate passing of our fellow king, Destroyer. My deepest condolences. I share in the sorrow and pain that envelops the family… What terrible news to start the day… Rest in peace, king Destroyer.”

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to Rey Destroller’s family and loved ones during such a sad time, as his flame was snuffed far too early.
