Sting has been a mainstay of AEW television since December 2020 and he will be ending his career at Revolution this week. Ahead of his highly anticipated retirement match, Sting admitted that he wanted to face Kenny Omega in a match in AEW.
In case you are living under a rock, Sting is set to partake in his final match on March 3rd at AEW Revolution 2024. The WWE Hall of Famer will team up with Darby Allin to defend their AEW Tag Team Championships in a tag team tornado match against the Young Bucks.
Sting has been a tag team wrestler for his entire AEW career, as he has been paired up with Darby Allin. Therefore, he never had a chance to have a proper singles run in the company.
While speaking to PWI, The Icon was asked about any singles matches he wishes he could have had in AEW. Sting admitted that he regrets not having a match with Kenny Omega in the promotion.
”A lot of wrestling fans thought for sure that Darby was going to turn on me, or that I was going to turn on him! But you know, I would have loved to have had a match against Kenny Omega. Kenny is legitimate world champ material. Obviously, he’s been AEW World champion, but, to me, sometimes how good he is goes underappreciated because he’s never been with WWE; some people think he doesn’t deserve his accolades. But he is one of the best all-around world heavyweight champions I’ve ever seen, one of the best in the wrestling industry.”
As for Kenny Omega, he is currently sidelined due to diverticulitis but has been recovering quite well and taking up non-wrestling ventures during his absence from AEW television. Nevertheless, fans never got to see Omega squaring off against Sting and that will remain a regret for The Icon.
As a reminder, Ringside News will be providing live play-by-play coverage of the event in our AEW Revolution hub. Keep checking back for any late breaking news, rumors and spoilers heading into the show.
