Chad Gable has seen a major resurgence in his career over the past couple of years, largely due to his association with Alpha Academy, namely Otis, Maxxine Dupri and Akira Tozawa. Even then, Gable still wants to finish his story by defeating Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship.

Chad Gable and Gunther squared off against each other a few times last year, with Gable even handing Gunther his first loss on the main roster via count-out back in August.

Gunther put his title on the line against Chad Gable once again back in September. The match turned out to be an instant classic for many. Chad Gable almost had it in the bag, but Gunther caught a second win and used a deadly combination of moves to put away Gable and crush his dreams and even made Gable’s daughter cry. The two never clashed after that for some reason, as WWE abandoned the storyline completely.

While speaking on the Battleground Podcast, Chad Gable admitted he still has unfinished business with The Ring General and expressed his desire to finish his story by defeating Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship.

For those that didn’t see I went through a period through the late summer and early fall with with Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship. He’s on this insane run right now, a record-setting run with the title. I don’t think I ever got closure with [his feud with Gunther]. I feel like there was still some loose ends left there, that could still be tied up. So first and foremost, if I had it my way I’d like to finish that up. I’d like to finish that story.”

“I’d like to win that championship and really solidify myself as a singles guy, finally. I’ve kind of always had this stigma attached to me that I’m a tag team wrestler, and I think winning my first singles championship is my chance to break free from that for good. So, that would be my goal.”

We will have to wait and see whether Chad Gable will eventually become a main event level Superstar in WWE, as fans certainly feel he more than deserves a push again after a terrific 2023.

What do you think of WWE dropping this major Chad Gable story? Do you feel they will run it back eventually? Let us know in the comments!
