WWE’s Reasoning Behind The Rock’s WrestleMania 40 Match

TKO Holdings Group made waves in professional wrestling by appointing Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to their Board of Directors. This obviously gave him a lot of power and The Rock essentially used it to get himself the main event of WrestleMania 40. Now, WWE’s reasoning behind the match has been revealed.

The Rock’s role as a part of TKO’s Board of Directors also grants him influence over his choices. This came into play for SmackDown this week, as Cody Rhodes stepped aside to give his WrestleMania 40 spot to The Rock.

PWInsider reported that in WWE, everyone is likely to at least consider The Rock’s ideas. The decision to shift the main event focus from Cody Rhodes to The Rock wasn’t driven by malice but rather a belief that Johnson’s involvement would be the most lucrative.

It was seen as a strategic move to enhance Johnson’s overall political influence and demonstrate Endeavor’s confidence in his role. It was also suggested that even Paul Levesque would likely lose a power struggle with Johnson at this point.

”In WWE, there isn’t going to be anyone that’s not going to at least consider The Rock’s ideas. This wasn’t done to target and politic Cody Rhodes out of his main event out of malice, but out of the belief that Johnson was the best idea to make money now and respect his new position with the company’s parent company. This was a strategic move to give Johnson more political power overall and to show Endeavor’s faith in his involvement and that even Paul “Triple H” Levesque would “lose that power struggle with Johnson at this point”, as one source surmised.”

The Rock and Roman Reigns will have face-off at the WrestleMania 40 kickoff event as well. We will have to wait and see how WWE will continue to book The Rock and Roman Reigns’ feud till then.
