Tony Schiavone has been part of Tony Khan’s company since the very beginning as a commentator and occasional announcer, but that doesn’t mean he can work every single week on AEW programming. He missed last week’s Dynamite and now Schiavone revealed the reason for his absence.

Tony Schiavone was absent from the January 17 episode of AEW Dynamite, with Tony Khan announcing that he was home sick that night. Ian Riccaboni filled in for Schiavone on commentary.

While speaking on What Happened When, Tony Schiavone was asked about his absence from Dynamite last week. Schiavone mentioned having a stye in his right eye, and at one point, his eye was swollen shut.

Initially, he thought it was conjunctivitis and was advised to stay away from others. However on Wednesday, he received a diagnosis confirming it was a stye.

“I had a little eye problem, a little stye in the right eye. Actually it was more than one, and eye was swollen shut last week. Thought I had conjunctivitis, which meant pinkeye and to stay away from everybody, but on Wednesday, I got a diagnosis that it was a stye. So yeah, I’m okay. I hate missing TV, but I was obviously back for Saturday. I’m really having a good time on Saturday. So I’ll be back this Wednesday, and [that was] just a part of being an old f*****.”

Tony Schiavone is already back in the saddle and will continue to be a regular presence on AEW Dynamite, so we’ll have to wait and see what he has in store for fans for tonight’s show.
