New Japan Pro Wrestling has been undergoing quite a few changes over the past few weeks, all of which have been set in motion long ago. Now, the company has officially unveiled the Global Heavyweight Title ahead of Wrestle Kingdom 18.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling revealed a shift in its leadership, with Hiroshi Tanahashi being appointed as the new President of the promotion. This decision was reached during a meeting of NJPW’s board of directors and shareholders on December 23, 2023.

Tanahashi becoming President of NJPW brings a lot of future changes as well. In case you didn’t know, Jon Moxley, Will Ospreay, and David Finlay will be squaring off against each other in order to determine the first-ever IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion at the Tokyo Dome on January 4, 2024. This championship is set to replace the now-defunct IWGP United States/United Kingdom Heavyweight Championship.

During the official Wrestle Kingdom 18 press conference, the company finally revealed the Global Heavyweight Championship, which will be defended tomorrow. Naturally, fans already dig the look of the belt.
