Sting made a surprising debut in AEW in December 2020 and has been prominently featured on AEW television, often teamed up with Darby Allin. Known for his death-defying stunts, he once made even Sammy Guevara believe that the latter had ‘killed’ The Icon during a match.

Despite being 64 now, Sting has been competing at an unexpectedly high level, which has impressed fans and pro wrestlers alike. Over the years, the Stinger has performed various insane spots, especially in AEW now.

During the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event this year, Sting, Darby Allin, and Tetsuya Naito got the win in a trios match against Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, and Minoru Suzuki. During the match, Guevara attempted a 630 Splash off the top rope to Sting through a table at ringside.

While speaking in an interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Sammy Guevara shared his experience of that moment, expressing confusion and a bit of fear, believing he had effectively ‘killed’ Sting. Guevara mentioned that Sting was supposed to move, but due to the speed or timing of the 630 Splash, it didn’t go as planned.

“So, story about that. He was supposed to move. But for whatever reason, either the 630 is too fast or timing, whatever, I landed off. And I remember going through the table, and I feel his body on my back.”

“And I’m thinking, Oh, I just killed Sting. Oh, no, and like I land, kind of roll off that look at him. And then he pops up like a minute later, you know? And like, finishes the match, because he’s such a pro.”

“But I remember for a minute, I was like, oh no. He took complete total blame for it. He was like, Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t move, whatever. I’m just happy he’s okay.”

“He’s like, Sorry, I no sold your move. And I’m like, bro, you’re good. You know, like, I’m just happy you’re alive.”

Sting will be ending his in-ring career at AEW Revolution next year, and the company even made special poster for The Icon. Regardless, it remains to be seen how AEW will continue to book Sting until his retirement next year.
