CM Punk’s return to WWE at Survivor Series has been widely celebrated, marking a legendary comeback for the acclaimed wrestler. In case you forgot, Punk was also in AEW for a couple of years before his WWE return and interestingly enough, Punk recreated a move from his AEW in-ring debut during his match at Madison Square Garden this week.

The global audience eagerly awaited CM Punk’s return to the WWE ring after a decade-long absence at the 12/26 WWE live event at Madison Square Garden. Dominik Mysterio, chosen as Punk’s opponent for this highly anticipated comeback, was considered by many fans to be the perfect choice for various reasons.

CM Punk held nothing back and even made references to his AEW in-ring debut at All Out 2021. At a particular moment of the match, Mysterio climbed the turnbuckle and tried to land a move on Punk. However, Punk sat up and made Mysterio miss the spot while Punk laughed, recreating a spot from Punk’s bout with Darby Allin at AEW All Out 2021.

The Second City Saint ultimately put down Dominik Mysterio with a vicious GTS for the win. The Madison Square Garden house show achieved record-breaking success for WWE, making it a monumental event in every aspect. With such triumph, the anticipation grows for how WWE will continue to book CM Punk as the road leads to the Royal Rumble on January 27th, 2024.
