Things were looking up when The Dyad were revealed as the Grizzled Young Veterans in NXT. Joe Gacy and Ava did their thing with The Dyad in tow for a while, but then the former WWE NXT UK tag team departed from the company.

As the Grizzled Young Veterans once again, they spoke to Metro.uk about their decision to leave WWE. They may have looked good in the Schism faction, but that was not what they wanted for their careers.

Zack Gibson started by saying that it all came down to them being unhappy with how things were going. He didn’t go into specifics, but things were not panning out the way they wanted them to when they first made that jump to NXT.

In a nutshell, this is one of the big driving forces as to why we wanted to leave and get out because without going into too much, we just weren’t particularly happy with how things were going. It all felt a bit boring. Ultimately, you know, this is our job, but it’s also it’s our hobby, and it’s our life. So we want to be enjoying what we’re doing. ‘Now we’re back out in the wild west. It all feels exciting and fresh again, it feels a little bit like starting over, like you’ve got a new lease on life.

Zack Gibson also spoke about how the objectives in WWE shifted, and they no longer lined up with what they were trying to do. That caused them to bet on themselves and depart from WWE.

When company objectives shifts, sometimes you find yourself not lining up with what it is that they want at that current time. Our decision to move on wasn’t necessarily like, ‘We don’t like that company anymore!’ It’s not a big middle finger to the company, the company is doing great business, it’s just we felt that as a product, we weren’t doing the best business.

James Drake later adds that they toughed their contracts out because they didn’t want people’s perception of them to go down. This was not what they wanted from their run in NXT, and they asked for their release after that.

A lot of people have had that in the past, and they’ve just decided to stay at home. [But] it wouldn’t have been a good look for us, and it wouldn’t have been a good look for the company.

There were a lot of questions about the status for the Grizzled Young Veterans when they first asked for those releases from NXT. It was first reported that they were rejected, and then it was stated that they were leaving anyway. After a few more appearances on television, Zack Gibson and James Drake were free from their NXT contracts.

Joe Gacy has done his own thing since the Dyad left. He cut a strange promo underneath the ring during the November 28th episode of NXT. Ava has not been seen in several weeks, which makes us wonder if they will repackage The Rock’s daughter.

The Grizzled Young Veterans are now doing their thing on the indies once again. Only time will tell where they land next, but they seem determined to make a lot of noise in the process.

Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
