AEW Strikes Gold with ‘Like a Dragon Gaiden Street Fight’ on November 15th Dynamite

AEW presented quite an episode of Dynamite this week, and one match really helped AEW make some money this week. The Like Dragon Gaiden Street Fight was action-packed, and we have a lot more to that story.

Ringside News provided comprehensive coverage of AEW Dynamite this week. It was quite a show, and that included the Like a Dragon Gaiden Street Fight. After that match, plenty of fans were talking about what went down, and AEW is very happy with everything that happened in that match.

AEW had a major sponsorship deal this week with Sega, and Sean Sapp noted behind Fightful’s paywall that the company made six figures on the match. It was also thanks to Kenny Omega’s ties in the video game business.

As Fightful Select had reported, AEW landed a big deal with Sega for the street fight match that aired on the November 15 AEW Dynamite. We’ve learned much more about the deal, and how it came to be.

The Sega deal was into the six figures, and largely connected to Kenny Omega. The sponsorship was tied to the Yakuza spinoff Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, and featured several references to the game. 

The deal was a result of weeks of collaboration involving Sega, AEW’s Nik Sobic, and Kenny Omega. While initial proposals suggested the match could occur at AEW Full Gear or other events, the decision was made to feature it on Ontario Dynamite. This choice aimed to maximize sponsorship exposure compared to Full Gear. Additionally, Paul Wight’s planned return to the ring in November played a role, and Sammy Guevara was replaced by Brian Cage due to an injury.

It’s also worth noting that the segment featuring Kenny Omega, Chris Jericho, and the Young Bucks from the previous week had been recorded the week before. AEW sources believed that Tony Khan included Sega in the Kota Ibushi signing announcement to enhance the overall value of the announcement.

Those in AEW were also reportedly very happy about this match. Only time will tell how long it will be until AEW does something like this, but the cross-over efforts seem to be a success.
