WWE and UFC are now under one umbrella, which Endeavor holds with TKO Group. Although they may be working together now, there was a time when the competition was fierce between the two companies.

Joe Silva was a pivotal figure in the UFC, serving as a matchmaker for the organization. He played a significant role in organizing fights and competitions, helping shape the UFC’s roster and matchups. Silva was recognized for his contributions to the sport of mixed martial arts, specifically in his role as a matchmaker for the UFC. WWE realized that, and they wanted him.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer brought up an older story that had never been reported. It seems that WWE tried to steal Joe Silva away from UFC during a time when UFC and WWE were really competing for the same market in the early 2010s.

“It’s funny, because I don’t think I’ve ever reported the fact that WWE came after Joe Silva.”

“I don’t know the answer as to what the motivation was. I don’t think it was for creative, though, I think it was executive, administrative or something. I know the whole story, I’m gonna say early 2010s, it wasn’t late 2010s.”

“Oh, UFC had already established themselves and Joe Silva had already won booker of the year awards when this happened. Yes, it was, and UFC was riding high.”

WWE was able to make things work without Joe Silva, and history turned out the way we find ourselves today. It is very interesting to know that WWE made this kind of big play years ago, and it just goes to show that they know exactly who to take from an organization to benefit themselves and possibly cripple the competition.

Keep checking back with Ringside News for more on this story, and so many more in the future. WWE and UFC’s merger is now complete, so we will have to see how that benefits both companies from this point on, as they are no longer in such heated competition with each other.
