AEW has a lot of plans in the pipeline, but it appears that Tony Khan is taking things as it comes to him at this point. Where Khan used to have long term angles planned, AEW has seemingly adopted a new strategy of week to week booking instead.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez noted how Ricky Starks’ in-ring suspension was altered a bit. He noted that Starks changed up how many days he actually has left on his suspension, which was quick math that they had to do so he could wrestle at All Out.

Dave Meltzer then noted that AEW books their shows “week to week,” and this is what they get for doing things like that. After all, if you don’t think ahead too much, continuity errors and other conflicts can always arise.

“I mean, they’re doing week to week. I mean they’re doing week to week, and that’s just the reality of it when you’re doing week to week, those things happen. I think Tony’s mentality, I mean obviously there’s some long-term stuff, but he’s tweaking week to week. I mean there is some stuff that, just the fact, injuries happen a lot. You’re always changing. If you book something out for six months — like this [All In] card. They did have a card, they did have matches, but a lot of things changed this week when AR Fox didn’t get his passport in time or whatever or the Rey Fenix thing that they thought would be okay, but he wasn’t — Pac was hurt, so I think that’s part of the idea.”

It was also noted that adding AEW Collision to their weekly schedule really didn’t help things. That extra two hours of television really added a lot of responsibility, as Thunder even stretched WCW very thin. It appears that AEW Collision might be doing the same for AEW.

There are some creative issues that cannot be helped, and the pro wrestling world can be very unpredictable. That being said, Tony Khan doesn’t seem like he’s booking a lot of long-term angles right now, as he figures things out on a weekly basis.

Do you think AEW needs a longer plan, or is booking week to week helping them? Sound off in the comments to let us know if this booking plan is a good idea.
