Ringside News reached out to ask about the United States Title change on this week’s SmackDown. After all, Rey Mysterio wasn’t even scheduled to be in that final match against Austin Theory.

We were told by a tenured member of the creative team that Rey Mysterio “was always scheduled to win the title” on SmackDown. That being said, the chaotic angle actually all went according to plan.

The LWO celebrated with Rey Mysterio after his big win, even though it was Santos Escobar who was supposed to be in that match. In the end, the babyface won the title, and fans were happy. Only time will tell how this story ends for the LWO.

It is interesting to note that Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar were in the semifinals match, but Mr. 6-1-9 could not continue. It appears that Mysterio was able to get over whatever that issue was, and now he’s champion.

What’s your take on WWE giving the United States Title to Rey Mysterio? Was it time for Austin Theory’s reign to end? Sound off in the comments to let us know what you’re thinking!
