WWE brought Backlash to Puerto Rico this week, and there was a packed arena in San Juan waiting to give WWE one of the best crowds they’ve ever seen. It turns out that they almost had a much different main event.

Ringside News reached out to confirm a story about WWE changing up the Backlash main event, and we were told it is true. “Yes. Bunny and Priest were originally scheduled to go on last,” one tenured member of the creative team told us.

Fans in Puerto Rico certainly treated Bad Bunny vs Damian Priest like the true main event of the Backlash show. The crowd was brought to a fever pitch a few times, but that wasn’t the end of the night for them.

The six-man tag team match with the Usos and Solo Sikoa defeating Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and Matt Riddle went on after Bad Bunny defeated Damian Priest. Then the actual main event match of the night saw Cody Rhodes defeat a bloody Brock Lesnar.

We’ll have to see how soon WWE comes back to Puerto Rico for another event, but it will be hard to top Backlash. If anything, perhaps Bad Bunny’s match will main event the show next time around.

What’s your take on WWE changing plans for the Backlash main event match? Do you think the show was great anyway? Sound off in the comments!
