Elias remains one of the biggest cases of WWE simply not knowing what to do with a particular talent. After a mediocre run in NXT, Elias was called up to the main roster and became popular with his Drifter gimmick. However, WWE was never able to capitalize on Elias and even Road Dogg feels Elias was mishandled in the company,

With his catchphrase “Walk With Elias” getting over with WWE fans and his guitar performances always being a huge hit, many people felt Elias was on the cusp of greatness in WWE.

This was especially the case during the first two years of his main roster run. Unfortunately, he was lost in the shuffle on Monday Night RAW and Friday Night Smackdown and there is no hope for his character now.

While speaking on the Oh…You Didn’t Know podcast, WWE Hall Of Famer Road Dogg, who was the lead writer on Smackdown, felt that Elias was simply mishandled in the company.

”Look, I liked ‘The Drifter’ character (that Elias portrayed) as well. I think if we would have stuck to that, been committed and consistent with that kind of drifter psychology, I think it would have done well.

I think we didn’t quite understand what we had. So we mishandled it. That’s when you get a new toy and you (rough it up) and that’s what we did and so, we did that several times.”

You (person who sent in the question) brought up several of them. Thank you so much for doing that. Some of the things I cry about at night and my failures as a creative writer in wrestling.”

Elias was last seen facing off against Omos on Monday Night RAW last month, in a losing effort to the Nigerian Nightmare. Only time will tell if WWE will ever have anything significant planned for Omos.

What’s your take on what Road Dogg said? Do you think Elias’ case is hopeless? Sound off in the comments!
