WWE’s show of shows went down once again without The Rock around. Fans fantasy booked his match against Roman Reigns many times, but it just didn’t go down. With WrestleMania 40 less than a year away now, it might never be too late to start thinking in that direction.

The Rock was once thought to be a virtual lock for WrestleMania 39. Then The Great One said that he wouldn’t be physically ready by the show of shows, so his match against Roman Reigns was nixed. Now, fans are already looking ahead toward WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, The Rock has not closed the door on WrestleMania 40. He “left a crack in the door” that a WrestleMania match might be possible next year.

“Reigns had pretty much gone through everyone at the top tier on the roster, and with the exception of Gunther or, of course, The Rock. Dwayne Johnson, when he turned down this year due to schedule, did leave a crack in the door open about possibly doing Philadelphia at WrestleMania 40 next year, but that was far from a commitment and certainly nothing anyone should count on happening. There didn’t appear to be another new challenger on the horizon.”

The Rock is one of the biggest stars on the entire planet. WWE will take him whenever he can make himself available. That being said, WrestleMania isn’t the only big show on WWE’s schedule, because there are 3 other pay-per-views in the traditional Big 4, with the Royal Rumble, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series along with WrestleMania.

We’ll have to see The Rock makes his way back to WWE any time soon. He is incredibly busy and stretched pretty thin as it is. With the XFL, Young Rock, his acting roles, and his energy drink company, The Rock is also one of the busiest men around as well. A WrestleMania 40 match isn’t impossible, but it would still be just as difficult to pull off.

What’s your take on the possibility of The Rock showing up at WrestleMania 40 in Philly? Do you think it is still happening? Sound off in the comments!
