WWE has a lot of plans on the road to WrestleMania, and sometimes that includes a change for a character’s creative direction. It seems that one Superstar switched to the babyface side of the fence on this week’s episode of SmackDown.

During this week’s episode of SmackDown, Santos Escobar officially turned babyface. He was previously a heel alongside Legado del Fantasma.

This all centers around interactions with Rey Mysterio. On the February 10th episode of SmackDown, Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar were involved in a fatal four-way match along with Karrion Kross and Madcap Moss. Although Moss won the match, he eventually lost to Gunther. After that match, WWE dropped a video with Escobar and Mysterio to continue their stories.

The two shared respect for each other, and Escobar talked about watching Rey Mysterio with his father as a child. Then they traded masks to show that respect.

On this week’s episode of SmackDown, another backstage segment took place between Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar. They talked about how much respect they share for each other again, and then Dominik Mysterio and Rhea Ripley showed up to put a damper on the situation.

We will have to see how this progresses as the weeks go on. Obviously, Santos Escobar has a lot to offer as a heel, but he might also find great success as a babyface as well.
