Cody Rhodes returned to WWE after a run in AEW, and he received one of the best pops during WrestleMania 38. Then he was injured, and eventually received another babyface reaction during the Royal Rumble in the Alamodome. It seems that WWE could have planted the seeds for Cody Rhodes’ turn to the dark side.

Any WWE Superstar, except John Cena, can go through a heel or babyface turn whenever they need it. This moves their character along, and adds a new dynamic to situations. Cody Rhodes has been a babyface since his WWE return, but Paul Heyman has a way of changing anyone’s mind.

During his “Wrestling with Freddie” podcast, Freddie Prinze Jr discussed Cody Rhodes’ promo with Paul Heyman on RAW this week. We will have to see if this detail was intentional, but Prinze stated that they could have planted the seeds for a Cody Rhodes heel turn in that promo.

“Paul is just at a whole different level. It’s like making a deal with The Devil every time he speaks to a wrestler, and he’s going to test your morality as a babyface because you’re always going to be a babyface if you’re in the ring with Paul Heyman”

“There’s an interesting moment where Cody was almost nodding along and it made me think like, this could be the moment they go back to if Cody turns heel too soon. Now I’m not saying that’s what they’re going to do, I’m not saying that’s what they should do. I think that was actually the most powerful part of the promo was that little sprinkling of doubt that Heyman always layers in there. He’s just a stud, man.”

WWE kept fans on the edge of their seats throughout the entire Bloodline saga. WrestleMania 39 will be a huge night for the company, and Roman Reigns. Cody Rhodes punched his ticket for that big match by winning the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble as a triumphant returning babyface. Only time will tell how long things stay that way.
