CM Punk was already polarizing figure in the professional wrestling world before his scathing rant on Colt Cabana, Adam Page, and The Elite during the post-AEW All Out media scrum. However, his subsequent physical altercation with The Elite backstage intensified his status as a public enemy among fans and peers in the industry. That situation caused AEW to nix some big plans for the Second City Saint.

At AEW All Out, CM Punk beat Jon Moxley to become a 2-time AEW World Champion. Right after that, MJF came out and confronted Punk. A lot of things have happened since then, especially Punk relinquishing the title.

Fans were very disappointed about the unexpected turn of events that essentially robbed them of a trilogy match between the two. Naturally, plans can always change in pro wrestling, and this is just another case of that.

While speaking during an interview with Comedy Store Wrestling, Big Bill revealed that AEW nixed a major storyline featuring MJF with The Firm and CM Punk after All Out.

Whatever was planned got kiboshed pretty quickly. After that, we’ve been making the best of it. Stokely, myself, and Lee working together has been pretty good. What we just did with Jungle Boy and HOOK was really fun. The fans liked it and it did really good numbers, I don’t know if I want to talk about that. It was entertaining and people liked it. It was a fun thing to do. There is traction there, for sure.

Tony Khan still has no plans to release CM Punk from his contract. AEW is carrying on without Punk, even nixing him from the cover of their upcoming Fight Forever video game. We will have to wait and see what will become of CM Punk in the end.
