WWE has been through many changes over the past several months. That included bringing back several acts to the roster who were released over the past couple of years. Now, it looks like WWE is getting closer to bringing back another team that didn’t work out during their first run with the company.

The Authors of Pain debuted in NXT in May 2016 and quickly made an impact by dominating their opponents with their size and strength. They won the NXT Tag Team Championship in August 2016 and held the titles for over six months before losing them to SAnitY in April 2017. They were called up to the main roster in the Raw brand in April 2017, but they faced several injuries, and they got split in 2020.

Sadly, they were never able to replicate their NXT success on the main roster and after spending a considerable amount of time on the sidelines due to injury, the duo was released from the company. Following their WWE departure, both men haven’t wrestled on the independent scene for any other promotions. In 2022, the team announced that they are starting their own promotion, Wrestling Entertainment Series.

According to Fightful Select, WWE has had internal discussions about bringing back the Authors of Pain. Akam and Rezar were an integral part of WWE’s NXT brand and Triple H might be looking to bring them back in a big way.

Fightful Select has learned that Akam and Rezar, collectively known as the Authors of Pain or AOP, have been discussed for a potential return to the WWE. Both were an integral part of the NXT Black and Gold brand before being called up to WWE Raw.

In addition, the possibility of their longtime, original manager Paul Ellering was also discussed. He managed them during their NXT run before being abandoned on the main roster. The duo remained close with Ellering, and got his blessing to name themselves Legion of Pain outside WWE. There were originally rumors Ellering didn’t want to do the main roster travel, which he’s refuted.

This is just another set of released WWE Superstars that Triple H is considering to bring back. Only time will tell if these internal discussions will amount to anything. Stay tuned to Ringside News as we bring you similar stories.
