CM Punk was not happy with his booking after spending nearly two years as the top star in WWE. In the end, the Chicago native left the Stamford-based promotion on a sour note. Punk returned to the squared circle after seven years, when he made his AEW debut in 2021.

His status with the promotion, however, remains under wraps. Punk hasn’t appeared in AEW since All Out on September 4, 2022. The Second City Saint had fight with The Elite after the pay-per-view event. Punk was forced to relinquish the AEW World Championship in the wake of the brawl.

Punk recently surprised the internet wrestling community with a cryptic post. The former AEW World Champion took to his Instagram stories and uploaded photo from his early days in WWE, seemingly teasing a WWE return.

The strange post led to fans speculating about Punk’s status with AEW. WWE star Apollo Crews chimed in on the Punk situation as well. The former Intercontinental Champion was asked to share his thoughts on the rumors regarding CM Punk’s return to WWE during an interview with Wrestling Inc.

Check out his response here:

“It’s not that I wouldn’t be happy or I wouldn’t be upset — I don’t know if I’d really feel any kind of way, honestly. It’s nothing against him personally or anything, but I don’t know…I think I’d just kind of be neutral with it. But again, extremely talented individual, and only time will tell, right?”

It remains to be seen if CM Punk will return to WWE, which is now being run by Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. Punk is still getting paid under his AEW contract. Stay tuned to Ringside News for more.
