WWE is a global business, and they bring their show to every corner of the planet. A new report suggested that WWE is planning to hold a big event in India on January 18th, but word of that show has not spread everywhere within the company.

It was previously reported that, “the event is slated to take place on a grand scale in Hyderabad. The roster will comprise a mix of superstars, both Indian and international.” This news naturally excited a lot of fans, especially those in India.

Ringside News reached out to verify this story, and we were unable to confirm that it is taking place. A tenured member of the creative team told us that, “It’s possible that it’s true, but has not been discussed with the writing staff.”

It’s still very possible that the event could happen, but it probably won’t be as “big” as reports suggested because WWE already has a stacked deck for January and February around the reported time of the event.

WWE previously filmed their Indian crossover, WWE Superstar Spectacle, at the ThunderDome in Tropicana Field on January 22nd, 2021, and it aired on January 26th for India’s Republic Day. That event also included an international selection of WWE Superstars, primarily from India. WWE Superstar Spectacle also had zero build on television, which could explain why the WWE writing team hasn’t dealt with it.

WWE obviously wants to expand into India, because they realize how hungry those fans are for pro wrestling action. Triple H made it clear that he still wants to open branches of NXT in a variety of locations.

We’ll have to see what moves they make to capture that market, but a big event in January would certainly help that process along.
