AEW and Warner Bros Discovery have demonstrated lot of synergy, with several AEW events sporting WBD show branding. WBD frequently mentions AEW ratings in press releases as well. Tony Khan recently said AEW is now an ‘important player’ with Warner Bros. Discovery.

While speaking during AEW Full Gear media scrum, Tony Khan shared his optimistic view on AEW’s future. He said that AEW is a family, and they are a family business. Khan said they now have really strong revenue streams that allowed them to take the long view of how things play out in 2023 onwards.

In a world where media rights and that landscape is always changing, Tony Khan feels like the most important thing is that AEW has a very strong media partner with Warner Bros Discovery. He said it’s only gotten stronger since the merger happened. Warner Bros Discovery has given AEW more opportunities with additional content, and he thinks it’s going to be beneficial for their future.

I’ve always been able to take a long view on AEW content. We have a lot of resources. There’s a family, and we’re a family business. AEW was able to have an upfront investment, and we were able to build more revenue, very quickly. Now we have really strong revenue streams that have allowed us to take the long view of how things play out in 2023, 2024.

I feel like the most important thing is that we have a very strong media partner with Warner Bros Discovery that has only gotten stronger since the merger happened. Warner Bros Discovery has given us more opportunities with additional content and I think it’s gonna be good.

Not only do we have more opportunities to get content in the WB pipeline, but we’ve had more opportunities to get interconnectivity and integration with their shows and things that are important to them. So, we’ve become an important player. It’s been a challenging time for some media properties, but for AEW when we’re up year over year and for the entire year, it’s also been a positive quarter, the pay-per-view buys have been very strong.

For some companies that haven’t enjoyed the kind of success that AEW has in 2022, I can see why it would be a concerning market — for us, I’m actually very optimistic about it.

AEW’s performance continues to please Warner Bros. Discovery. As we previously reported, WBD plans on collaborating with AEW for new television program, a reality TV show at that. The show will premiere in 2023, but no name has been revealed for that upcoming project. Stay tuned to Ringside News for the latest news and updates.
