Chris Jericho has been considered as one of the popular figures in the wrestling industry. Jericho’s 30 years of experience and ability to transition at every stage of his career successfully has been highly regarded. Looking at that, it seems that Jericho has Olympic sized plans for the pro wrestling world.

The Ayatollah of Rock n Rolla has been a cornerstone of the wrestling industry for three decades. He has wrestled for almost every top promotion like WWE, WCW and is currently signed to Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling. Le Champion reigns over the landscape as the ROH World Champion for the first time in his career, after defeating Claudio Castognoli at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam in September 2022.

The Wizard is one of the believers that professional wrestling should be a part of the prestigious Olympic Games. While amateur wrestling finds a spot for itself in the Olympics, professional wrestling is not included due to pre-determined outcomes. Jericho explained on his Talk is Jericho podcast why he would like to see pro wrestling become an Olympic sport.

“I literally want to go in front of the IOC, the International Olympic Community, and pitch pro wrestling as an Olympic sport. Now, you might go, ‘How can you do that? It’s all,’ now, hold on. Stop right there. Gymnastics, pairs gymnastics, figure skating, pairs figure skating, what is that? It’s two people working together to put on the best performance possible … There is no way we could not do the same with pro wrestling.”

Professional wrestling has seen stars crossover from the Olympics to make a name for themselves in the industry, such as Kurt Angle, Mark Henry and Chad Gable. The latest entry from the Olympics into the pro wrestling saw amateur wrestler Gable Steveson, who clinched the gold for his country in the Olympics in summer 2021, signing with WWE in September 2021.
