Rey Mysterio is a true veteran in the world of professional wrestling, whose influence in the industry knows no bounds. When it comes to being a pro wrestler, Mysterio has essentially accomplished everything. He also took a break from WWE for a good reason.

Mysterio dedicated more than 30 years of his life to the industry and gained a lot of respect from fans and peers alike. He has been wrestling since he was 14 and his contributions to the business cannot be understated.

Mysterio joined WWE in 2002 but decided to leave the company after his contract expired in 2015. He eventually returned to WWE back in 2018, where he was also part of the Royal Rumble match.

While speaking with The National, the legendary luchador revealed that he decided to take a 3-year hiatus from WWE in order to connect with his family.

I left because I was just tired physically, mentally and I just wanted to reconnect with my family,. But I always knew that I wanted to come back and I wanted to retire in the WWE. My career was definitely going to end in WWE, no matter what. I never really had any desire to go anywhere else. It has always been the WWE. Now I know the WWE has always been my home.”

Rey Mysterio is set to challenge GUNTHER for the Intercontinental Championship on this week’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown. We’ll have to see how he will fare in the match. If anything, this will start a new era for Mr. 6-1-9 as he escaped WWE RAW to get away from an impending feud with his son, Dominik Mysterio.
