Malakai Black was granted conditional AEW release, but that opened up a lot of questions. The fact that Triple H is signing up a bunch of his favorite wrestlers that Vince McMahon fired is also perfect timing for this situation.

Sean Sapp reported behind Fightful’s paywall that several higher-ups in AEW thought that Malakai Black is heading back to WWE. He also apparently told, at least, one WWE Superstar that he wanted to come back.

Malakai Black asking for his release had several higher ups in AEW to think that he just wanted out to go to WWE, and he’d told at least one WWE talent he wished he was there. AEW officials also thought that the situation had been smoothed over before All Out. At least one AEW source believes that we’ll end up seeing Buddy Matthews and Malakai Black back in the company within a few months, and said that AEW had no intent of releasing Black to go elsewhere last month.

We’ll have to see if Malakai Black makes a return to WWE. It will be interesting to see how Tony Khan handles this situation, because Black is a big name and could be an even bigger asset to Triple H. After all, Triple H knows how to book Aleister Black, unlike his father-in-law.
